Sixth Avenue, Manhattan. A few rusty traces of its temporary and ill-fated renaming to "Avenue of the Americas" remain, like this seal of Surinam.

Varick Street, Seventh Avenue South, Seventh Avenue, Manhattan
This is a great set, and I have to confess surprise at the rusted condition of the Village Vanguard sign, given how many landmark recordings have been done there.
Olden Cameras of course matters to photogs, but as for the Surinam sign, aren't there more of its ilk up in the 50's as you approach the park?
I've only noticed the country seals down by Canal Street, but they could very well exist farther uptown as well.
The first shot is beautifully colored and composed. Great work!
I thought it was still called Avenue of the Americas.
Only if you're a tourist.
Or anyone who ever uses a map or a phonebook. Sure, no non-tourist ever actually calls it that (and probably never did, even back when it was first changed) but it's still the official name, as far as I know.
The Times always refers to the street as the Avenue of the Americas.
I think Olden finally passed on after a long and painful illness...so sad, used to be the place to go.
I WOULD LOVE TO SEE SOME PICTURES FROM THE EAST HARLEM , ESPECIALLY FROM THE JEFFERSON PARK ON 114 STREET AND 116 STREET BETWEEN PLEASANT AV AND 4 AV , I WAS LIVING THERE ON 2002 AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT , I KNOW THAT NEIGHBORHOOD SUCKS BUT ANYWAY...........................
My company on 6th Ave. still uses Ave of the Americas as it's address.
no one has noticed the glitch error on the subway ad. the computer feedin it is just starting up.
That Kennedy Chicken pic you took could have been your last (at least with that camera). That dude looks like he has his eye on pawning your camera.. lol
It isn't called "Avenue of the Americas" anymore? I still put that on my mail.
Great job Mike
One of the first things I do in my work morning is check my RSS feeds in Thunderbird to see whats new from SL.
Good Job!
Man, they're running that sign on a Pentium 4? That's fantastic.
These photos are nice. I think Olden may still be in business, although I haven't been there in months. In any event I was always told to never ever buy anything from them -- they were on a par with Cambridge Cameras. As to 6th ave: As a native New Yorker it is always 6th Avenue, never Avenue of the ... In any event these are nice photographs and I enjoy this.
Mike,
The Kennedy Fried Chicken you have a photo of here at Varick & Downing has changed! They repainted their awning in blue and now call themselves "Block Rooster Foods".
