Allston, MA
hey this series is really sweet. i ride the 66 bus home through this part of Allston every day. Love the Twin Donuts sign espec. I've just found your site through a student who alerted me to the Fried Chick. series--a concept I refer to in my lectures but hadn't got visuals for. I assume you know that Harvard is colonizing Allston and all that glitters there will be gone soon. great weeping.
thanx for the excellent eye. i'll be back!
"Twin Donuts" always used to read like "Turin Donuts" to me. I found that strange.
Also, I've had a good time at the Silhouette.
i lived in boston for seven years and never noticed the pastel tanks before ...
For a moment, I thought I was looking at a neighborhood in the Bronx. About halfway through, I realized I wasn't. I'm still not sure how, but very cool nonetheless.
Jesse: Allerton, perhaps?
The pastel tanks made me smile. Makes me think of spring and warm weather ;-)
Nice! I live on the other side of the street that the Silhuette is on. I like the composition on the first Model pic.

Haha Allston St is the boy
Hi Mike,
I lived for 6 years (1980-86) just a block behind the Model Cafe on Rugg Road. I'm surprised it's still there. And the Silhouette Lounge and Twin Donuts. I'd figured there were all long gone by now. Allston was so funky then. Wish I'd photographed every storefront along Harvard Ave and Brighton Ave.
Just went to Twin Donuts. Let's save the Twin Donuts. It's such a sweet old place. Who's with me? No, seriously.
And very nice pics.
