[Another business named after last year.]

Bensonhurst, Sunset Park, and Park Slope, Brooklyn. They all sort of run together, unless you're these guys (see comments).

The view is from Sunset Park (the park, not the neighborhood), which on a clear day has what must be the best free view in New York. What are your favorite spots?

Where were you for your Statue of Liberty shot? Brooklyn has a great view... Someday when I have a much bigger lens (about the size of a water main) I'd like to make a better attempt of one I took looking west on 24th Street:

Most people don't realize how tiny the statue actually is...

Because of its elevation, Green-Wood Cemetery offers some good views, too.

Mike--
I found your site by accident, and have been visiting almost daily for about six months since. Awesome stuff. I moved to northern california in '98, and miss the city terribly. SL is a great place to reflect and remember.
Next time you go to Park Slope, swing by Kensington (S/W corner of Prospect Park). I used to live at 71 Ocean Pkwy. There are great cornices by the front doors, and a horse stable right around the corner, as well as an interesting market on Kermit that I think you would like. And the storefronts on Church are to die for--lots of great signage there. Not to mention Greenwood cemetery a few blocks away.
Keep up the great work.

Yes, The Statue of Liberty is shorter, I believe than it's stone base. I like that shot, but the one I like best is the shot directed towards manhatten, where it looks like, but I can't be sure, the brooklyn bridge suspensions are rising out of the buildings. Awesome. I took a shot while I was attending art school in Chicago, back in '74, of the sears tower from around fifteen miles away, and the chimneys of the apt buildings right in front of me were almost mimicking the towers' shape. Here, you do the same with the super high-rise skyscrapers matches the smoke stacks! Do you ever need donations to keep your site active, I ask as I know I visit every day, and I'm sure your site is very active and growing everyday?

My girlfriend used to live up in Washington Heights. Before last year that whole area was pure mystery to me, but Fort Washington has really great views of both the Hudson and "downtown" (i.e. everything under 180th street).

Maybe you've hit that area already; I've been out of tune with SL for a few months.

Sunset Park hill is best for the 4th of July Fireworks. Always room to lay out a blanket, and as you said, great view.

Might I suggest too that the Sunset Park pool is best in the city.

With the express D & N trains, Sunset Park is the best kept secret in Brooklyn.

Two of my favorite free views of Manhattan are on the BQE heading south just before going over the Kosciusko Bridge and Again the BQE as you travel under the Brooklyn Heights Promenade.

"Because of its elevation, Green-Wood Cemetery offers some good views, too."

That was my answer, so I'll go with my second choice. Gantry Park in LIC. It kind of post cardy, but I dig it.

BQE: Hardly a free view if you need a car to get to it!

Hi Mike - I visit your great site regularly for a NYC top up. I live in England and don't get over to my favourite city too often. Though my favourite thing to do in NY is walk the quieter neighborhoods the midtown skyline still blows this small town boys mind! So my favourite views are 1) From the walkway on top of the Queensborough Bridge looking down the East river with the great expanse of Queens and Brooklyn on the left and the stacked buildings of Manhattan to the right. 2) From New Jersey at night looking across to Midtown. I also seem to end up down on the East River at sunrise watching the city come to life. Wish I was there! cheers...

Not exactly "free", but it's a definite perk to see the views of NYC when sitting on the left-side of the plane coming into LaGuardia.

I work in Sunset Park and when riding the B11 bus to get to the train (from 9th to 4th) the view makes me forget the miserable day I had.

My two other favorite viewing spots are riding the train over the Manhattan Bridge and the bus over the Verrazano.

I never lose the cheesy grin from my face when I get a great view (or a view I have seen hundreds of times before) even though I have lived here my whole life.

I would say that sunset park is finally starting to feel the expasion from Manhatten. Just look at the real estate prices of residential housing jumping an average of 35% in one year. Still beautiful and that breeze from the water is what makes sunsetpark timeless.
