Avenues A, B, C & D, plus First below 14th.
Note the similarity of AVE C/Pharmacy's typography to the somewhat more established CVS's.
Manhattan Street, the former extension of Cannon Street north of Houston, no longer exists. The other former Manhattan Street is now the angled extension of 125th Street west of St. Nicholas Avenue.
It's the last day to vote for the Bloggies; Satan's Laundromat is a finalist for "Best Photography of a Weblog."
So I'm looking at the drugstore sign for seconds, thinking, the "Ave C" part, and automatically translating from French to English. The phrase I wound up with made no sense -- and it turns out I can't even type it here, because your spam protection won't let me put the word from that sign in your comments. You, know - ycamrahP! (backwards)
the ave c shot is great. i would love to know why its not a cvs anymore
ps- its really funny that you cannot type farmacy spelled correctly as it is picked up as spam
I like the Citibank one. Both of those guys are making the "My Account Balance Is WHAT?!?!?" Face that we're all so accustomed to.
"the ave c shot is great. i would love to know why its not a cvs anymore"
they got tired of paying franchising fees perhaps, but never got rid of the old signage. i suspect this is how kennedy fried chicken came about as well.
Ave/C: candidate for not fooling anybody.
I wonder what the story is on that farmacy sign? I took a shot yesterday on William Street (lower Manhattan), and the CVS at William and Fulton clearly has a lower case "p" in farmacy on its bright red letter sign.
I can't tell much about the other letters from the angle of my shot (though there is a slash between CVS and farmacy).
Are we sure this was once a CVS?
Maybe it's just an imitation, not a former CVS. Sorry about the spam-protection issues.
I always thought those pictures were current pics, but there's no snow on ave c in your pics. Looks like the pictures might be from November or so. Am I wrong? Just curious.
October 17th. This was actually the first section I walked as part of the every-block-of-Manhattan project.
I don't see any photography of weblogs here - what an outrage!
Your blog is the best blog i ever seen...
And the photos are five stars...
