Near the trestle

Rittenhouse Square

South Philly
The last couple of pics are kinda sad, that was someone's front room once, probably kept immaculately clean.
I miss philly. I caught so many great old film at the old TLA. Nice shots, Mike.
Whoo! Adequate Yearly Progress! We should all aspire to such lofty goals.
Is "Adequate Yearly Progress" something to brag about?!?!
I think not!
God I miss living in Philadelphia! Pittsburgh has its weirdness, but just not the same as Philly!
You can still find some real old school OBEY and Giant posters around town just off of South Street. Back in the late 90's those things were all over the place and I had no idea what they were then.
actually, adequate yearly progress is kind of a big deal to schools. it is tied to federal money from Bush's no child left behind.
So Sad. But great work. Some of the most pitiful sites make for wonderful art.
Philly shots are amazing.
Wow, i'm getting a vaguely Aaron Siskind Vibe on the last 2nd and 3rd to last pics
philadelphia is second only to brooklyn. love park, south black, north irish, all soul. philly is a great city.
Oh Mike I missed you! I would of loved to hang around while you took photos and showed you some stuff.
these pictures are amazing, i love the last one.
i'm here in finland and all i want to do is see the places in the pictures.
wow - that third from the bottom is stunning.
In response to Laura from Finland, please trust that you probably do not want to venture into the places here. It only serves to prove that oftentimes memories are better left in the past and not revisited.
please...step into my parlor so that I may entertain you.
the last two pics are great....
it is so philly, i loved south philly when i lived there. it reminded me of poland's coalmines cities or Lodz- post-industrial of xix century forgotten city (beloved by D.Lynch) also former capital of poland.
Philly has that climate of a forgotten pearl and pride of the nation, lost in the chase for blink supremacy
Laura in Finland - be grateful that Finnish towns are clean and efficient with bye-laws to ensure that businesses cannot advertise their presence in any way they see fit, graffiti is scrubbed away immediately and any property owner who allows paint to age so much as to even crack is heading for a fine. All of which explains why Finnish towns have absolutely no character whatsoever.
I find this site utterly fascinating. It's a stunning combination of professional photography and utterly irresponsible urban administration. Wonderful! I'm so glad I don't live on the same continent.
Steve in Finland
