Ah, the Boulevard of Death. I know it well. Nice shots.

Viewed these while visiting family and had to share. Amazing cloud shot over Forest Hills etc. The Boulevard of Death sign impressed for the obvious reason. Happy Turkey Day Kevin, Mike and everyone else! Sharing the photolog has been a lot of fun!

Kind of a theme of objects looming! I loved the block w/ the water tower.

Nice shots, Kevin. LeFrak for President.

PS: Who was LeFrak?

Posted by: Eliot at November 26, 2004 07:31 PM

Sam Lefrak developed the buildings in the 50s and 60s.

In the 1980s, he changed the spelling to LeFrak, for reasons known only to him...

After I posted the previous message, my mom commented that yeeeeears ago she almost bought the second or third house on the right in the water tower picture! I knew some of these pics might jog a memory with her, but that was too much!!!

The very real and unforgiving depiction of Queens is almost embarrassing.
Nice shots, especially the redeeming sunset pic.

Hey, I posted 'em because I LIKE 'em.

I am a plebeian and a philistine. The foodienyc. guy in gothamist and I had a lengthy online argument because I believe it's ridiculous to show gourmet food items with, like, a tablespoon's worth of food plopped in the middle of a frisbee-sized plate.

Thnx for the photos,I was a little girl when they built LeFrak city. It changed the area and added to the number of cars parked alomg Queens blvd.It became "the place to live". I looked @ the street with the watertower thinking that those people will be locked into their neoghborhood when a big snowstorm hits. Don't miss that, now living in northern California

The clock tower shot reminds me of Back to the Future =) There is something incredibly appealing about the water tower shot, I can't put my finger on it.....but it's great!

The 80's was back when the President was buying gold plate for the Whitehouse, and such.. Lefrak became LeFrak in a move that recalled French Royal ancestry. I don't know if anybody but he realized that, but then whoever he was trying to impress must have. Of course anyone he would have wanted to impress with such a thing would only have laughed at him for it, anyway. Didn't he have a wife who also did something? (Lord, I hadn't realized how long ago this all was!)

I understand they finally bulldozed that little house on the corner on Macys. I have been back many times, but not to that corner. Used to eat a lot of burgers at the White Castle accross the street.
