well i'm glad you got it back - i still can't believe the treatment protesters received and the conditions they were kept in. i read that the police were finally forced to put carpeting down on the floor of the piers because so many people were getting burn from whatever sludge was on the floor.

"Be grateful my camera doesn't record smells."

It must have been all that sulfur leaking out of Satan's doorway. :P

Greenpoint in general smells fine. Industrial east Greenpoint smells bad. This particular street in industrial east Greenpoint smells awful.

yes, there are parts of greenpoint that smell really bad. i think that the area near newtown creek's new wastewater treatment plant smells the worst. i biked by there in the summer once and that was a HUGE mistake.

down my block, on the way to work, i bike by the back of a bakery that smells like it's making tasty, tasty doughnuts, so that's a plus.

One of the major German newspapers, FAZ, published an article about Greenpoint's oil pollution today. They interviewed Basil Seggos, who works for "Riverkeepers". Think it's frithening how the problem has been keept out of the awareness of the public for decades. If anyone is interested in the article (German language), let me know.

Mike, glad to see that you were able to finally get your bike back. I wasn't following the pictures at first until I saw the posting about 'No bike.' Ahhhh, it all makes sense!
