RNC

08/30/04

The rhetoric makes a lot more sense in jail. Regarding that, I'm not-quite-quoted in a Newsday article. Many thanks to those of you who've called, written, commented or blogged your support. Please consider writing to Mayor Bloomberg or your city councilmember as well.

To think, I've always thought the term "young Republicans" was an oxymoron. Oh, and when did the giant "W" get incorporated into the Pink Flyod laser show, or has our Amurkan president really started to think he is Batman?

great pics as usual

Posted by: longlivenyhc at August 31, 2004 01:54 AM

Quite a change in venue for you, within 48 hrs going from jail to the RNC.

Posted by: whatisee at August 31, 2004 02:45 AM

looks like someone's playing space invaders behind the speaker in #6

Posted by: tomas at August 31, 2004 03:08 AM

Is it just me or do the Young Republicans look like Hitler Youth? :-/

Posted by: redcountess at August 31, 2004 05:47 AM

I was thinking the same as redcountess...what's going on the second to last picture? It looks like sort of pyrotechnics are going off. Ha! Yeah, too bad the republicans didn't have Great White play...

Posted by: randombanner at August 31, 2004 10:01 AM

Did you have a press pass how did you get in there?

Posted by: Sean at August 31, 2004 10:20 AM

um... getting into abandoned subways is one thing, but now you're just showing off your superfreaky houdini abilities... ;)

Posted by: rion at August 31, 2004 10:52 AM

great photos

what's that round, red circular area for, a tx-style rodeo display? circus clowns?

Mike I don't know how you do it... Master, please show me the way to satanslaundromatness :)

Posted by: Keith yan at August 31, 2004 11:07 AM

The second-to-last picture is just overexposed, but I liked the effect.

The oval is a stage that goes up and down for musical acts. They seem to load them onto the stage under the convention floor, then raise them up to perform.

I did not have a press pass. Perhaps Eliot did.

how come all the delegates and participants are white? in nyc, the city of diversity, there are no minority representation at the RNC? well, can't say it's a surprise. the modern GOP was never known for its inclusiveness or diversity (of any kind), no matter how much the GOP consultants and marketers are trying to masquerade.

Posted by: Ken at August 31, 2004 11:34 AM

Hmmm.

Republicans over 16 = FAT

Republicans under 16 = CHILDREN OF THE CORN

Yeah, seems about right.

Posted by: MC at August 31, 2004 12:00 PM

hehehehehe. You rule.

Posted by: G. McFuzz at August 31, 2004 12:15 PM

How many times is the GOP going to play the 9/11 card, it disgusts me to see that the backdrop for the stage of RNC is the NYC cityscape.. of course with the obvious lack of the WTC towers. Gimme a break. Re-elect Bush because he was president while *your* country was attacked, this great president who earned your vote by avenging those killed in the WTC attacks by getting another 1,000 Americans killed.

Posted by: justin at August 31, 2004 02:02 PM

Notice the not-so-subliminal crosses on the front of the wooden lectern, which makes it look more pulpit than podium.

A reassuring message to the Red States that we're not going to go TOO overboard with this consarned diversity thing...

Posted by: GB at August 31, 2004 02:52 PM

How can you criticize Bush about 9/11? Condi Rice was an expert on Russia and a college provost. What better person to select as our country's National Security Advisor?

Posted by: Kitzi at August 31, 2004 04:19 PM

I love pic #5. I can't believe no one's commented on it yet. This way for booze, that way for skirts... Nice eye!

Posted by: chang at August 31, 2004 04:54 PM

Young Republicans = Nazi Youth..yea sounds about right. That laser light "W" on the building is so lame. Republicans are mentally ill.

Posted by: Chris at August 31, 2004 04:55 PM

I just want to thank all of you bright young Americans for getting out there in the streets and proving what kind of patriots you are. You are doing more to get me re-elected than 1,000 Swift Vets ever could. The fact that you don't understand that the more people see what pathetic degenerates you are, the more votes I get, makes me and Laura real happy. Keep up the good work!

I was thinking the same about the Hitler Youth shot...

>> I just want to thank all of you bright young Americans for getting out there in the streets and proving what kind of patriots you are.

Thanks for reiterating the weak connections conservative supporters of Bush try to press. I've got news for you, questioning government policy and voicing disappointment with one's governemnt does not show any lack of Patriotism. Thank you for showing *how* brainwashed you [Bush supporters] have become in the last four years. Suckers!

Posted by: justin at August 31, 2004 09:03 PM

.....Dukes of Hazzard making political statements?!

Posted by: Mark (Aust) at August 31, 2004 10:45 PM

You know, I'm undecided myself.

Posted by: John Kerry at August 31, 2004 11:00 PM

It's funny and revealing how individuals who are so quick to insult liberal-minded folks like myself are afraid to reveal their true identity and must hide behind statements which bear no relevance on the choices they make (or care not to make).

I just know some Bush supporter is going to write a bunch of slanderous, non-sensical bs and sign the damn thing "9/11 Survivor" with a fake email/website....awesome!

Posted by: justin at September 1, 2004 03:37 AM

personally, I think whoever is impersonating GWB here has a point. there are those "protestors" that do not exactly seem intelligent at all. I've seen many demonstrators with no clear message in mind, simply getting behind the anti-Bush banner and causing unnecessary trouble, or simply go on an insipid ramble, lacking any sort of succinctness, about farcical topics ranging from star trek to fat people eating mcdonalds instead of the poor policies of Bush and his cronies.

the legal protests are being controlled and it IS sickening. the UPJ accept to rally on the west side? this leads to separation of all protestors/demonstrators from the convention (an obvious intention on Bloomberg's part to discourage any sort of rally) the result is an image of universal adoration of the Republicans being broadcast simultaneously with images of corralled protestors in a very disheartening location by a highway. and the fact that the media follows you relentlessly leads to discontent among everyone.

the next 4 years may prove to be a catastrophe, but a premonition of upheaval in the government may yet prove to be true.

BTW, was there something wrong with your film, it seems the BROWN SHIRTS on the kids in the eighth pic down reproduced as light blue here, heh heh!

Posted by: mrgrooism at September 4, 2004 12:30 AM

I can't wait for Bush to get re-elected and piss off the baby Liberals. WAAAA!!! lol

GO BUSH!

Posted by: Steve at September 6, 2004 03:12 AM

i think its funny how the republicans seem to love that statue the french gave us so much.

Posted by: aPictureOfaThousandWords at September 7, 2004 09:20 PM

I love how that statue is the main theme on the ACLU's homepage.

Honestly, the generalizations here of republicans are just as bad (if not worse) than those of the generalizations of democrats. Calling all republicans over 16 fat, is biased. It needs to be recognized that bias is a part of life and everyone has it. So get over it.

As far as calling us "mentally ill" goes, that's no more substantiated than I calling you a pinko idiot. It's uncalled for in a political discussion (even though this wasn't intended to be -- and for the record, I enjoy the photographs very much).

The Liberal Media is more biased than the one Republican based news channel, just because they are people too and have more channels to say it.

[And my email and website work]

Great photos! But I was a little frightened for a second there that you might have been attending the RNC. I just check out your wonderful photos every once in a while (I am a from the NYC area stuck in the midwest) and I don't really know you at all. So, I was a little freaked out. But, then I check out your jail photos and I feel better! I wish I was in the city with everyone to rally against the RNC...
