Kevin Walsh, of the redoubtable Forgotten NY, secured permission for a rare tour of the colonial-era Prospect Cemetery in Jamaica on Sunday. The cemetery opened in 1640 (or 1668, variously), but time has not been kind to it.

The Times had an article about the tour, with a priceless photo (not available online) of people craning their necks to read the upside-down monument.

that cemetery looks very atmospheric during the day, at night it would be even more interesting. have you considered hopping the fence at night and trying out some light painting? no idea what kind of long exposure capabilities your camera has though. tripod + camera + cable release and just walk around painting light onto the scene :) looks like NY has so much subject matter!

Prospect has a new website. prospectcemeteryassociation.org
Future tours/events will be posted there.

The Forgotten Tour group was wonderful, and I look forward to seeing you all again.
