I do some work for a company that collects money in a similar fashion to the way that AB&C Group does for the ACLU. In our case, the receiving party would have access to the donor's personal information immediately after the donation was received. I suspect that a less wired company would send this information out to the recipients on a daily, weekly, or even monthly basis. Your information is probably safe, but I'm not convinced. Either way, though, at least you know who might have received your info.

It's just -- the Heritage Foundation? You can imagine my shock when I saw that on my credit card statement.

Posted by: Mike at March 17, 2004 10:36 PM

No kidding. That's so extremely in the wrong direction as to make for high comedy.

Posted by: yukino at March 17, 2004 10:53 PM

At least it's an organization you already give to. :-)

Posted by: Frank at March 17, 2004 11:05 PM

I was going to become a member of the ACLU and donate, but now I think I won't ;-) All in all I feel the ACLU is a good organization, but I am not sure I will be giving out my credit card number to them.

I donate by check, and now I'm glad. Ugh.

Posted by: Gordon at March 17, 2004 11:16 PM

I suppose it is comforting (in some twisted sort of way) that there is a company willing to cash-in on both ends of the political spectrum. Yeah, capitalism!

What the hell is the Heritage Foundation? Is that one of Dubya's things? If so, that's kind of scary. I should google it. OK, never mind, I'll google it.

Love the pictures btw. I got a digital camera as a gift and want to do a photoblog too. I'm not an 'official' photographer type. I just really enjoy taking pictures. Keep up the good work!

There's a big anti-war rally on Saturday. I like to get pictures of that - some of the signs are really good.

oh man. talk about opposite ends of the spectrum. see, i'm finding this absolutely funny, but that's only because it didn't happen to me. if it had i would have been really ticked off. With this kind of luck I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't start getting fundraising materials from the Heritage folks. freaky.

You people are sickening. The ACLU is now defending NAMBLA and you contribute money to their organization?

What was that famous quote about defending to the death your right to say it?

That.

(more on ACLU/NAMBLA)

Posted by: Mike at March 18, 2004 09:21 PM

Supporting free speech is fine. But supporting a group who supports free speech among other things NAMBLA is unacceptable. Why doesnt the ACLU speak out in regards to the FCC's blatant crackdown on so called offensive speech on the radio. It's time for people in this country to start accepting responsibilities for themselves. And if you support any part of NAMBLA then you are scum! and in case your wondering I am NOT religious.

One more before I go. Recently the ACLU is defending some gay people caught crusing im sure you all know the story. Well these people were having sex in a park where kids play and i've seen it everywhere scumbags flashing their lights ready to meet some stranger to fuck for the night. Well the good ole' ACLU is defending them because the police targeted them in the operation. Only in this overly liberal society is that not o.k. If you're trolling around parks where kids play and having your having sex and basically being a creep then you should be targeted if your gay or straight. What the fuck is wrong with that? Only people that have something to hide are against this.

Posted by: Jason at March 19, 2004 11:40 AM

In America, anyone gets to advocate for whatever they want, including changing the law to let them have sex with boys. I wouldn't want to live in a country where men who want to have sex with boys weren't free to advocate that the laws against sex with boys should be changed. (That's very different from saying they should go ahead and have sex with boys, which is something I'm definitely not saying. Neither is the ACLU.) Censorship is far more unamerican than sex with boys.

The ACLU also defends the rights of Nazis, Rush Limbaugh, and anyone whose civil liberties are threatened. And they do a damn good job of it. I support free speech for everyone, including Nazis, NAMBLA, and Jason.

I'm sure there's more to the park-sex story than what you stated.

Posted by: Mike at March 19, 2004 11:50 AM

The ACLU is a liberal cesspool only promoting division among special interest groups through pointless litigation and double standards! Don't give a penny more to their filth and corruption!!!

For teh record that last poster was not me. I unlike some people on the internet post their real email and name.

Posted by: Jason at March 20, 2004 12:49 PM

The ACLU is such a joke in claiming it's trying to keep free speech free. Perhaps you should do your homework before donating to Satan's organization. So if they are so called for free speech, why are they trying to silence the right to know act? Hmmmmmm

WEST PALM BEACH, FL - Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union today hailed a state court of appeals decision striking down Florida’s so-called "Women’s Right to Know Act" because it would have forced abortion providers to give inappropriate and potentially harmful information to their patients. Planned Parenthood and the ACLU filed a friend-of-the-court brief in support of the challenge.

Best theOnion headline:
"ACLU Defends Rights of American Nazi's to Burn Down ACLU Headquarters."

Posted by: Evan at June 27, 2005 09:28 PM

All:
I'm a dues-paying ACLU member and proud of it, even after learning of their defense of NAMBLA.Remember when the ACLU defended the Nazi's in Skokie, IL? That was obviously unpopular too.

When people we find offensive have no first amendment rights, no one does. The theocratic religious right is a far greater threat to this country than Osoma Bin Laden, Nazi's and NAMBLA combined.

Posted by: Joe at August 25, 2005 12:58 AM

The ACLU is a communist organization and anyone who supports it should be shot for treason.

Posted by: Jerry at December 12, 2005 12:23 AM

As a Jew, I was proud of the ACLU defending Nazis on American principles above Tribalism.

As for the Heritage Foundation, there is a website called watch-unto-prayer dot org which is kinda crazy-religious, but they have a history of Heritage on the Council for National Policy and John Birch section.

Not only is Heritage a far-right provocateur, Heritage also supports the communist (globalist) agenda it claims to oppose, actually pushing in principles and institutions which are intended to submerge America in favor of TRANS-national business interests via nationalist hysteria. (It's a dialectic thing, a psyop.)

The point made by watch-unto-prayer is that this politicizing of Christianity by these "change agents" and opportunists is an evil plot to subvert real Christianity, not empower it. Well worth reading.
