The Q diamond is being retired in favor of the B, and a few hundred people gave it a proper funeral. The Q diamond carried me over the bridge many a time; last summer I dubbed it "the air-conditioned zephyr of Flatbush Avenue." More at Bluejake, Gothamist, and the Times.
I envy you, NY seems like a really swinging town. Great pics, I love the festive atmosphere.

Look on the bright side: we once again have one-train access to the Grand Street station, with that fish market directly upstairs ? even if it is only on weekends. The old D, which we had prior to the Q service, was just as clean and convenient; the Q, with all the weekend work and diversions through the tunnel and the extra stops, was an inconvenience.
Agreed with Frank. The Q diamond is the one train line that people should not be that wistful about. It's like getting wistful over a kidney dialysis machine when you get a real kidney for transplant. There's no history behind the Q diamond beyond the few years it was put into service as a stop-gap.
The D train and the B train returning to Brooklyn is something to celebrate about. Ditto with four tracks operational on the Manhattan bridge. Now the borough's subway lines are semi-back to normal.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled about the B and D! I'll just miss my old pal the Q diamond. And its strong air conditioning.
Dont worry... the R40S and R40M Fleets(Those of the ) will be in full force on the B on Monday with their superior climate control system.
It was a great blow out
