That is freakin awesome. What time was this at?
It started at 10:37... I left when Diplomat Lanes closed at 4. It was an amazing party!
just dropped in via metafilter, your pics are very good and i just wanted to thank you personally!
that is so cool! what woul be great would be if you could get groups together for this sort of thing on a monthly basis... and these groups could just 'appear' like in a 'flash' or something.
oh wait, someone did do that. all summer. all over the world...
next.
someone please close williamsburg before one of these saps hurts someone.
if irony is the goal, try getting 200 people to panhandle all day in Tenton, and then meet behind a hardware store in Montclair to shoot up. for serious- i may be living w/my folks, but ya'll are starting to make all of us look reeely stoopid.
Oh, sorry, Tom. I'd forgotten that it was impossible to have a little fun without worrying about whether it's hip and ironic. Who is "all of us"? I don't live in Williamsburg, nor do most of my friends.
i also enjoy all the flash mob references in the comments, kiddies! the train parties pre-date flash mobs by, oh, ten years or so. there used to be more drag queens and less neo-hippies. and thus there were fancier cocktails. but, yeah, kids, keep on living in your world where everything that happens is just a rip off of something that happened last summer, which, apparently, was the first time you became cognizant. no doubt next summer you'll be telling all your pals that something else is "just like those train parties." and sorry, tom, but i think it'd be hard to make you look any stupider.
Anyone know who's pictured in the 4th photo?, or know who shot the photo? The person second from the left bears striking resemblance to someone I know.
true, marie.
And before the neo-hippies and drag queens, there were hippies and beatsters and students and artists and love-ins and be-ins and such.
I recall a c.1967 fly-in. We converged on Kennedy Airport's International Arrivals Building (or was it LaGuardia's?), at midnight (with the help of wbai fm radio, ), just to say "high" to the arrivers.
It was fun.
And troglodytes probably had their version.
what state did u guys come from before hitting up williamsburg?!
i went to the train party, it was my first one and i had no idea what to expect...
i felt like a sardine the entire time, but seeing people getting drunk and smoking joints on the train was so rewarding! especially when the conductor said
THERE IS NO SMOKING MARAJUANA ON THIS TRAIN
if i ever go to another one i'll make sure to bring some beer to share
