Great takes!! Your Sunset is beautiful and creative Authority!

Posted by: Wyllow at August 1, 2003 11:48 AM

What great interpretations! After viewing 125 26-items sites, your "empty" really is a unique take on the subject. Many thanks to you for enlightening and entertaining.

I really like 'numbers' and 'sunset' is extremely tasty.

Posted by: johnny at August 3, 2003 12:21 PM

well done!

Posted by: racheal at August 3, 2003 04:01 PM

Do you mind if i ask what you used to make those thumbnails and no put them in a table like that? Did you code it pure html yourself?

Posted by: Fritts at August 3, 2003 08:31 PM

Photoshop Elements auto-generated the thumbnails into a directory (it took all the images from one directory and generated thumbnails in another directory and half-size images in a third). I stole the HTML from the 26 things site and inserted the URLs of the thumbnails into the HTML, then pasted that HTML into Moveable Type.

Mike, the way you title your pictures is startling. You find creative themes within the jaded cynicism of The City (there's only one ;) ) the way a child finds wonder in his everyday life. Home and empty are so arch and the truth of color, poignant, as most color in The City is rendered by the adornments of people (neon and such). Sunset is just plainly gorgeous: the way the sun subjugates the brightness of the headlights with its glow. Authority is extremely powerful: the continual circular barbed wire makes me think of the life cycles (esp.)of U.S. prisoners(i.e., high rates of recidivism). Any significance to the Commercial sign?

Posted by: Em at September 16, 2003 12:39 PM

i love the numbers and signage pictures. they remind me of the times where i was lost and felt that all of them were confusing. i enjoy your work very much i hope to see more in the future.
and i think the title of your page, good topic.
great job mike.

Always, Koelae Lynne

I loved this collection, it's very intelligent and inventive. you have a great eye

Posted by: Chris at October 26, 2004 12:39 AM

I love the sunset shot. I just started working in a highrise on the west side and and stunned by the sunsets I see. It's not too much of a stretch to imagine NJ as an imprssionist painting some evenings.

Posted by: MT at December 23, 2004 02:39 PM

So much fun. I lived in The City for 10 years (why did i ever leave?) and it is so great to catch a glimpse of home.

yea,i dig on empty, totaLLy dig on it

Posted by: herb at October 24, 2005 06:08 AM

Should I be arrested by your entrys? The plain fact is so far the Japan stuff is some what amusing. Lost in translatation to the X2. But your decidedly aloof imagery otherwise is marginal.

Posted by: SurfnZulu at March 1, 2006 11:17 PM

gotta say, mike, your work always hits home with me. i've never been to NY, might never make it, but just looking through all of your collections makes me believe that i have been. you use such incredible insight and there's such a raw art in everything you post. truly astonishing. thank you.

Posted by: melthefrench at June 2, 2006 10:05 AM

Where are you Mike...you never update.
I miss your photogs.
