MOB #3

07/02/03

Well, I can't say I wasn't a bit disappointed that MOB #3 wasn't in Grand Central. Instead, we met up there, went up to the balcony above the lobby of the Grand Hyatt, and applauded for fifteen seconds.

We got our instructions in the lower-level food court at Grand Central. Cops and National Guard members looked on.

In the hotel lobby, before we went upstairs to the mob site:
Mobbers in the lobby

Mobbers filled the balcony; I estimated about 200.

UPDATE: Fred Hoysted has a nice photo of the actual applause; I was too busy clapping to take one. Moist and Tasty has more photos.

Great job guys! I like the idea of a stunned and bewildered tourist in the lobby wondering why everyone is applauding.

I LOVE the 'flash mob' concept, and I want in. How do I get signed up to get notified of the next one in NYC?

Posted by: Travis at July 5, 2003 09:15 AM

The MOB rules...no I mean it.

Love the Flash Mob idea...Please organize one for London in the UK. It will have such a following and make the headlines.

Keep me posted Cheese Bikini

Gotta love it. Thats the way my mind work.
Think I should start something in Danmark.

Excellent work! I'd love to set something up like this in my home town. I estimate the bewilderment to be at least ten fold as nothing ever happens here, let alone two hundred people being in the same place at once. Any tips/suggestions would be much appreciated.

If there is an official mob organisation site EG. This one, whos lead people will follow then this will be big.

Someone organise one for London, make it big.

Make it something like 1000 people all pointing at some spot in the sky.

Posted by: TenPin at July 25, 2003 06:49 AM

This is just boring. You suck.

Posted by: Hans Aerber at July 25, 2003 07:04 AM

This is a really interesting phenomenon.
How bout everyone get organized and do something monumental instead of just random wierdness.

Like for instants everyone get shirts that say MP3 and walk around various record stores and big record companies and do a 1 hour lunch in mp3 shirts outside the RIAA offices.

That would be awesome!

Posted by: joyce at July 26, 2003 04:01 PM

Planning a "Glamouring" event which fits the "mob" concept, and it's open for multi-city/global participation. The link on my name is the webpage at the wiki...feel free to coordinate side-by-side for your area. :)

Love the MP3 shirt concept, by the way :)

You may want to take a look at these entries. He's vulgar, but makes some good points, especially in the second post.
