Stumbled across this little gem on my way from Flatbush to Rockaway Park.

I was stationed on Floyd Bennett Field, in 1955, for a few months, in the Army, there was a 90 mm gun site there. Then moved across Marine Pkwy Bridge to Ft. Tilden. Nike Missle site. I was in NY for a year and a half. In NYC from a small town in Kansas. What a SHOCK.... Sure enjoyed the city and Rockaway.

Floyd Bennett Field is the best for kite flying, walking,biking, birdwatching, eating lunch, catching a baseball or cricket game, not to mention the old planes in Hangar B and the cool ranger who gives tours of the control tower every sunday, gem is the right word. Also the remote control plane guys fun to watch. I go at least once a week to check things out, hell I've even camped there.

I served at Ft Tilden from Jan 55 to sept 56 in Bt D 505th Missile Battalion. Do you remember Kaufmann's Bar?
